Early life and education Tolman is the oldest of two siblings and a younger sibling. Early in her life, Tolman's family relocated to England. They stayed there until she turned four. Then she lived in Oklahoma for five years and later in West Texas before moving to Sugar Land. In the Fort Bend Community Theatre, she began acting lessons in the age of 10. Clements High School is where she went to school and graduated in the year 2000. She received her diploma in 2000 from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theatrical performance. In Dallas, after graduating from the college level, she was one of the founding members of Second Thought Theatre. The year 2009 saw her moved to Chicago, Illinois, to take classes in performance in The Second City Training Center. Tolman began her career in 2014. She starred on the FX criminal comedy Fargo's initial season. Fargo is a movie starring veteran actors Billy Bob Thornton Martin Freeman Bob Odenkirk. The movie was inspired by the Coen brothers 1996 film of identical title. Tolman's performance in the role of Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson was praised by Vanity Fair, who wrote: "She calmly and confidently stole the whole show". Tolman received an Critics' Choice Television Award for her performance in the category Best Supporting Actress, movies/ministries. In addition, her nominations for Best Actress were received at the Emmy Awards as well as the Golden Globes. Tolman was given the role of a guest on two episodes as romance writer Abby Berman on The Mindy program the following year. The actress was the support character in Michael Douglas' horror comedy film Krampus. After her breakthrough role in Fargo, Tolman declined several supporting parts as mothers, wives and best friends, looking for an unusual character. Tolman was cast in ABC's Downward Dog based off the Animal Media Group webseries. The show ended after one year. Tolman has been an active Twitter user, stated that she had "pretty amazing" ratings on her role in the ABC Drama Emergence. The show premiered in September of 2019, however, it was pulled after just one season that ended on May 21, 2020. She was also a guest star on NBC's Good Girls.
